Wealth and Power Fail to Shield Real Estate Moguls From Decades of Prison

2 min read

A New York judge has handed down 30 year prison sentences to three brothers who used their immense wealth and social standing to orchestrate a decades long campaign of drugging and raping dozens of women. Tal Alexander, 40, and twins Oren and Alon Alexander, 39, were convicted in March after prosecutors detailed a predatory pattern involving luxury trips to destinations like Aspen and the Bahamas. The brothers leveraged their success in the high end real estate market, where they served celebrity clients, to lure victims into environments where they could be easily targeted and assaulted.

The courtroom became an arena of raw emotion on Tuesday as twelve survivors shared the lasting wreckage caused by the brothers actions. One witness described carrying a quiet funeral inside her for the person she might have become if she hadn’t been attacked, while another recounted how Tal Alexander attempted to silence her by threatening her sister. Despite these harrowing testimonies, the defendants remained largely stoic throughout the proceedings, staring straight ahead or whispering with their legal teams. While defense attorneys pleaded for leniency by citing the brothers roles as fathers, Judge Valerie Caproni rejected those arguments, describing their conduct as monstrous.

Even as soon as the sentencing began, the brothers continued to maintain their innocence. Tal Alexander characterized their lifestyle simply as a work hard play hard mentality and suggested that he recognized how his behavior may have hurt peoples feelings. This refusal to take accountability drew sharp criticism from Judge Caproni, who questioned how individuals who refuse to acknowledge their wrongs could ever be rehabilitated. Though some victims fought for life sentences given the severity of the abuse which included targeting minors, the judge ultimately settled on concurrent terms of 30 and 20 years respectively for various charges.
